The Deschutes Public Library System (Oregon) filmed some Q&A sessions with some community members about their library. “People felt guilty about not knowing about their library.”
Go ahead, I dare you. After you read about Deschutes, see if you don’t get at least one good idea from them. I’m betting you end up with something more like 20 good ideas. (Let me know in the Comments.)
The Deschutes formula for library success is clear: know your users; partner with the community; identify the needs; offer solutions to problems (even before the become problems); and act with enthusiasm. Besides, of course, being attentive to your books.
And then, don’t forget! Let the world know about you. They shouldn’t have to feel guilty for not knowing! YOU should feel guilty for not telling them!
