These are tough times for libraries. We’ve been through tough times before and we will be again.
But we do need to think about the tough times, how libraries can survive, and how to convince the powers that be to fund them.
Meanwhile there are those who might ask “who the heck would want to be a librarian today? (that is, during aforementioned “tough times.”)” In the article Who Would be a Librarian Now? You Know What, I’ll Have a Go, the anonymous author answers that question. She’ll “have a go,” as the Brits say, because she can’t not. To her, it is a kind of calling. That’s the kind of dedication we need from those who will head up libraries tomorrow.
I had a go too, and I’m glad I did.

I’m glad you did! I now have my Hennepin County library card and it’s been awesome. We live about a mile away so we stop in quite frequently and always have a stack of books either coming or going. Plus the audiobooks, ebooks, magazines – they even have iPads that can be used. On Monday we were among 20 or so people waiting to storm the doors at noon when they opened on their “late” day. And the bookmobile got lots of cheers as it rolled by in a parade last weekend. Hurray for libraries and librarians!!
